Chancellor Emeritus Richard Wallace will serve as interim vice chancellor for development and alumni relations starting today.

Wallace was MU chancellor from 1997 to 2004, when Brady Deaton became chancellor.

“He brings a wealth of administration and leadership experience and capital experience,” Deaton said. “I extend my heartiest gratitude and appreciation to him for his tireless service to the institution.”

Wallace joined the MU faculty in 1966 as an economics professor. His first administrative appointment was as chair of economics. He later served in many regular and interim administrative roles at MU and the University of Missouri System. He was MU interim chancellor in 1996.

While chancellor, Wallace represented the university in several national organizations, including the Association of American Universities, the Missouri Council on Public Higher Education, the Board of Directors of the Big 12 Conference and the Board of Directors of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center.

MU plans to name a permanent vice chancellor for development and alumni relations soon, Deaton said.
