When the True/False Film Fest rolls into Columbia today, movie buffs from near and far will come out for the opportunity to view a slew of renowned independent documentary films. The festival, now in its ninth year, runs through Sunday.
Paul Sturtz and David Wilson, who started Ragtag Cinema with Columbia-area film connoisseurs, co-founded the festival. The films come directly from Sundance, Toronto and other film festivals. Some lucky viewers might even experience a flick before its official premiere.
Due to scheduling conflicts, the Stephens College venues for films have been moved to Jesse Auditorium and Missouri United Methodist Church, called The Picturehouse for the event.
Jesse Auditorium will host 10 films. The auditorium has 1,732 seats, the most of the festival’s venues.
“We are thrilled to be playing such a large part in the festival,” said John Murray, Jesse Hall coordinator for special projects and events.
Other screenings will be at the Blue Note, the Box Office (at former location of the Pasta Factory), Forrest Theater at the Tiger Hotel, the Globe Theater at the First Presbyterian Church, the Missouri Theatre, the Odd Fellows Lodge and, of course, Ragtag Cinema.
