Staff Sgt. Salvatore A. Giunta will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, in Jesse Hall Auditorium. Staff Sgt. Giunta is the first living recipient of the Medal of Honor for service in Iraq or Afghanistan, the first living service member to be awarded the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War and the eighth service member to receive the nation’s highest military decoration for valor in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Guinta received the Medal of Honor for actions while serving as a U.S. Army Specialist rifle team leader during combat operations against an armed enemy in the Korengal Valley, Afghanistan, on Oct. 25, 2007.
