Digging history

The third annual Missouri Archaeology Month Lecture will be presented at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 in the Museum of Anthropology, Swallow Hall. This year’s lecture, by Dr. Bruce McMillan, is The Discovery of Fossil Vertebrates on the Missouri Frontier and its Bearing on Archaeology.

McMillan will discuss the discovery of mastodon bones on the Osage River in western Missouri between 1796 and 1840, which led to speculation that the fossil remains were contemporaneous with early native populations.
