The Mizzou Advantage Undergraduate Research Teams, which are designed to create interdisciplinary research-based working groups comprised of faculty mentors and undergraduate students, will host another Pizza and Projects event from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in Gwynn Hall. Free pizza will be served on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Frank Booth, project leader for Modeling Childhood/Adolescent Obesity in Pigs, will discuss the use of Ossabaw pigs as a research model. Ossabaw pigs have a genetic predisposition to store fat and can be used to test environmental factors, such as diet and exercise to identify the best prevention and treatment methods for obesity in humans.
Kate Anderson, Mizzou Advantage library liaison, and Dorothy Carner, head of MU Journalism Libraries, will also share the outcomes of the Newspaper Archives Project. Many newspapers have no home, so creating a digital archive for orphaned content could ensure that the historical community records would be committed to a long-term access in digital format.
