Nominations are being accepted for the 2010 Mizzou Inclusive Excellence Awards.
The awards are given through the Chancellor’s Diversity Initiative to individuals at MU who have made contributions to any area of diversity, including gender issues, racial-ethnic background, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, abilities and disabilities and national and geographical origin.
Nominations should be submitted by Sept. 24.
Ten faculty, staff and students were honored with the first Inclusive Excellence Awards in 2008. This year’s winners will be honored at the second bi-annual Mizzou Diversity Summit, scheduled for Oct. 20-21 in Memorial Union.
Open to students, faculty, staff, and administrators, the summit brings the campus community together to plan strategies to help strengthen MU’s commitment to diversity. The event will feature two-dozen workshops and panel discussions on topics such as fairness in the workplace, transgender issues, diversity in the curriculum and creating a family-friendly campus.
The keynote address, at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Stotler Lounge, will be given by Kenji Yoshino, the Chief Justice Earl Warren Professor of Constitutional Law at the NYU School of Law. Dubbed “the face and voice of the new civil rights,” Yoshino will discuss the victories and limitations of the civil rights movement, while pointing a way forward.
The summit is free, but advance registration is required by Wednesday, Oct. 13.
