Charles N. Davis, associate professor of journalism, has won the 2010 John Aubuchon Freedom of the Press Award, given each year by the National Press Club to honor those who have contributed to the cause of press freedom and open government.
Also honored was Kouhyar Goudarzi, an Iranian blogger jailed in the wake of Iran’s disputed presidential elections in June 2009.
Davis is former director of the National Freedom of Information Coalition, an organization headquartered at the School of Journalism that funds open-government groups. Davis’ scholarly research focuses on access to governmental information and media law. He has earned a Sunshine Award from the Society of Professional Journalists and the University of Missouri-Columbia Provost’s Award for Outstanding Junior Faculty Teaching. Recently named the facilitator of the Media of the Future Initiative for Mizzou Advantage, Davis has also won the Faculty-Alumni Award.
The awards will be presented at a special ceremony at the National Press Club in November.
