Annual event celebrates MU staff with awards, classes and activities May 18–22

This is the 37th year of the Staff Advisory Council and the 36th year that the council has organized Staff Recognition Week, a series of events created to show appreciation for MU staff.

Events during May 18–22 include an awards ceremony, free MizzouRec classes and activities, an arts and crafts showcase, a free lunch and an online auction. This year's theme is "Working for You." See complete listing of events and times at the bottom of this page.

Free MizzouRec Access

Kicking off the week will be the awards ceremony, where winners of the Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff Awards, the Barbara S. Uehling Award for Administrative Excellence, the Mick Deaver Memorial Award and the Missouri Alumni Association Award for Alumni Relations Excellence will be recognized.

“We’re making some adjustments to the awards ceremony in order to really highlight staff,” said Becky Stafford, chair of the Staff Advisory Council. “I really encourage everyone to come to the awards ceremony and see the difference. I think they’ll be pleased with what we’re doing.”

The council is again partnering with MizzouRec, which offers its facility and various classes to staff for free throughout the week. Activities include swimming, volleyball, soccer and a rock-climbing wall. Tours are also available.

“We are fortunate to have a lot of groups on campus that are willing to step up and help us show appreciation for staff during this week,” Stafford said.

MizzouRec is also helping to coordinate the mid-week “Fun Day,” featuring tricycle races, hillbilly golf, a door prize walk and an ice cream social. Environmental Health and Safety is sponsoring the Arts and Crafts Showcase in Memorial Union’s Stotler Lounge. Meanwhile, CAFNR, MU Student Unions and Campus Dining are jointly sponsoring a free lunch on Thursday in the Student Center. The menu includes barbeque pork, black bean burgers, chips and various desserts.

As in previous years, Human Resources will sponsor seminars. Staff interested in registering for classes should visit Human Resources Services online. Among the workshops are “Chair Yoga,” “Relationship Basics for the Workplace,” and “Recruitment and Hiring Training.”

Online Auction

Beginning May 18, an online auction will open. Proceeds will go toward education awards given by Staff Advisory Council that provide funding for staff to take courses that further personal and professional development. In addition, Tiger Pantry will be accepting donations during the Arts and Crafts Showcase on Tuesday and Wednesday and during the free lunch on Thursday.

A full schedule of Staff Recognition Week events can be found on the staff council Facebook page. Keep up to date on Staff Recognition Week events and other Staff Advisory Council news on Facebook and Twitter (@MUstaffcouncil).
