Jackie Jones, vice chancellor of administrative services, will retire on Dec. 31, Chancellor Brady J. Deaton announced Wednesday. Jones has worked for MU for 34 years.
Gary Ward, associate vice chancellor of Campus Facilities, will serve as interim vice chancellor of administrative services beginning Jan. 1.
“Jackie has been instrumental in transforming this campus into the vibrant and efficient environment that it is today,” Deaton said in a statement.
“Through her leadership, her team has consistently investigated ways to improve the academic performance of the campus, while being mindful of our environmental footprint. I am reminded of her hard work when I talk with visitors on campus who consistently remark on how beautiful and inviting our campus is. We will truly miss her and wish her well.”
Jones was appointed to her current position in 2001. She is responsible for the administrative oversight of financial and service operations, including Cashiers, Payroll, Accounting, Campus Facilities, Human Resources, MU Police, Parking and Transportation Services, Printing Services, KOMU-TV, Show-Me State Games, University Club and Catering, Missouri Theatre/Jesse Auditorium, and Environmental Health and Safety.
She is also responsible for planning, business operations and facilities operations.
“Being an employee of the University of Missouri has been one of the most cherished experiences of my life,” Jones said.
“This is such a very special place. To be a member of the Mizzou family means having an opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives every day, not just here on campus and in Columbia, but across the state, country and the world.”
Jones began working at MU in 1979 as manager of Business Services. Later, she was promoted to associate director of Business Services, director of Business Services, and associate vice chancellor of Administrative Services before being named to her current role.
“I’ve been very blessed to spend my entire career at MU within the Administrative Services division,” Jones said. “Administrative Services employees work tirelessly, and mostly behind the scenes, to keep Mizzou running. It truly has been an honor to work with such talented and dedicated individuals, and I’m very proud of all they have accomplished for and on behalf of Mizzou.”
Jones received a bachelor of science degree in business education from Truman State University, a master’s degree in counseling and guidance, and a juris doctorate from Southern Methodist University.
She is a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers, the National Collegiate Licensing Association, and the Association of University Real Estate Officers.
