MU Health Care has purchased 25 acres in southwest Columbia to build a new facility for its University Physicians-Green Meadows clinic.
The current Green Meadows clinic, at 3217 S. Providence Road in Columbia since 1985, has outgrown its space. The new site is at the corner of Southampton Drive and Providence Road.
Scheduled for completion in 2014, the clinic will house family medicine physicians and pediatricians, outpatient psychiatric services, a retail pharmacy, laboratory services and radiological services.
“The purchase of this land in southwest Columbia will allow MU Health Care to build a larger outpatient clinic with a more efficient layout,” said James H. Ross, MU Health Care chief executive. “In turn, the larger clinic will allow us to accommodate growing outpatient volumes and to expand pharmacy and radiology services in southwest Columbia.”
The purchase has been in the works since September 2010, when the Board of Curators approved a request allowing MU Health Care to use debt financing of $30 million to build a replacement facility for University Physicians-Green Meadows. The bonds will be paid with MU Health Care revenue. Land cost, purchased from State Farm Insurance, is included in the total $32.5-million amount for the replacement facility. In February, the Board of Curators approved the land purchase.
No decision has been made about the fate of the old clinic building.
