Awards, tours and arts showcase highlight MU Staff Recognition Week

STAFF RECOGNITION WEEK

Annual celebration is set for May 16 through 20

Mizzou will honor the contributions of more than 10,000 administrative, service and support staff members May 16 through 20 during the 32nd annual commemoration of Staff Recognition Week.

Sponsored by the Staff Advisory Council, the celebration showcases MU staff members, who play a vital role in the life of this university.

Council members have organized various events for the week that are designed to entertain and educate. Last fall, they sponsored a contest to choose this year’s theme.  The winner was “Staff: Then and Now” submitted by Mary Reams, manager of medical education.

“Our hope is that you will help us focus this week on our changing attitudes and inclusiveness of all staff on campus,” says council chair Diane Bartley, manager of accounting services. “Staff council wants to encourage you to put into action the university’s values of Respect, Responsibility, Discovery and Excellence.”

The highlight of the week is the awards ceremony, which takes place at 1:30 p.m. May 16 in Jesse Hall Auditorium. Four employees, one in each job category, will receive a Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff Award in the amount of $2,000. In addition, three other awards of $1,000 will be presented.

The Mick Deaver Memorial Award honors a staff member who cultivates good relationships with students.

The Barbara S. Uehling Award of Administrative Excellence recognizes an MU administrator for leadership qualities and for contributing to improving working conditions for staff.

The MU Alumni Association will present its Award for Alumni Relations Excellence. This award, established in 2006, honors an MU staff member outside development and alumni relations who exemplifies concern for fostering good relations with alumni.

Also at the ceremony, campus staff members celebrating five years through 50 years of service will be recognized.

The annual silent auction benefiting the council’s education endowment fund begins at

8 a.m. May 16. Bidding continues through noon May 20. The fund is used to award annual scholarships to MU’s staff members to help further their education. For information about items up for bid, visit staffadvisorycouncil@missouri.edu or call the council’s office at 882-4269.

More than 30 artists campuswide will participate in this year’s arts and crafts showcase, held from noon, May 17 to 3:30 p.m. May 19 in 201 Ellis Library. Come out and meet some of the artists at the grand opening from noon to 1 p.m. May 17.
