Polish researchers to discuss soil-quality measurement

As the world’s demand for food grows and more crops are harvested for biofuels, understanding how agricultural management practices can degrade soul quality is becoming more important. In the past, scientists had to wait years to discover those effects.

Now, two scientists from Poland have developed a measurement tool that can assess the impact of management practices on soil quality.

The researchers — Tony Dexter, professor of soil physics at the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation in Pulawy, Poland, and Ewa Czyz, professor of soil hydrology at the University of Rzeszów in Rzeszów, Poland — will discuss the tool and how different practices affect soil quality on Oct. 11, at 3:30 p.m. in N208 Memorial Union.

The event is free and open to the public. A reception with beverages and snacks will be held following the lecture.
