Medicine and the ethics of death

Edmund D. Pellegrino, MD, chairman of the President’s Council on Bioethics, will open this weekend’s MU Health Ethics Conference: Redefining Death in the 21st Century with a special lecture, “Reflections of the Master Bioethicist,” tonight at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.

     The 2010 conference, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8-9, at the Holiday Inn Select, will examine the transdisciplinary ethics of how death is defined in our contemporary health care settings across the lifespan. Continuing education credit will be available to physicians, nurses, social workers and other health professionals. Registration and breakfast starts at 7 a.m. each day. Sessions begin at 8 a.m.
