The MU School of Medicine has been named one of the nation’s best residency training programs for family physicians. Doximity, a California-based professional network for physicians, rated it No. 3 in the Midwest.
The survey included more than 50,000 peer nominations from board-certified U.S. physicians and evaluations of 3,691 residency-training programs across 20 specialties.
Since 1970, 415 physicians have graduated from the MU Department of Family and Community Medicine’s residency program. They provide medical care in 39 states across the country, as well as in Canada, the United Kingdom, Africa and the Philippines.
“One of the most important duties we have as an academic medical center is to provide residency training for the next generation of physicians,” said Steve Zweig, chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and director of the Interdisciplinary Center on Aging. “Our mission is to train compassionate and capable family physicians who will provide patient-centered care for the citizens of Missouri and beyond.”
In the survey, the University of Michigan was ranked No. 1 and the University of Wisconsin-Madison was No. 2 among family medicine residency programs in the Midwest.
