Cheryl Black, an associate professor in the theatre department, was speechless when surprised Tuesday with one of the 2013 Kemper Fellowships for Teaching Excellence award. MU Deputy Chancellor Mike Middleton and Commerce Bank Chair Jim Schatz surprised Black in her classroom with the award — and a $10,000 bonus. Sitting around a small table in the Fine Arts Annex, Black thanked her colleagues and students. “[My students] keep me on my toes,” Black said. “They keep me inspired.” Mizzou Weekly will run profiles of all five Kemper winners in the May 2 issue.
