MU's global impact

Students, faculty and staff who have extended the University of Missouri’s global reach will be honored today with the 2011 MU International Engagement Awards.

The awards will be presented by the MU Council on International Initiatives at 3 p.m. in the Fred W. Smith Forum on the second floor of the Reynolds Journalism Institute.

This year’s winners are:

  • Patricia Vewenda-Mabengo, who is completing her B.A. in international studies with an emphasis in peace studies;
  • Yuan Tian, who is pursuing a double-major in psychology and communication;
  • Jake Haliday, president & CEO of the MU Business Incubator;
  • John Miles Foley, Curators Professor and Byler Distinguished Professor of English and Classical Studies;
  • Joseph Hobbs, professor of geography

The ceremony will include a presentation by MU students Sarah Almahmoud and Kiho Ogura, who will relate their experience organizing a fundraiser in response to the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
