The Front Page, a 1931 movie about the screwball antics of an investigative reporter and his editor, will kick off a semester-long series of films about journalism at 7 p.m. tonight in Fisher Auditorium.
The 14 films in the series, “Film Images of Journalism in American Culture,” will be shown each Thursday night through April 28. Series coordinator Betty Houchin Winfield, Curators Professor in the School of Journalism, said the films — most of which were Academy Award winners or nominees — examine values about journalism, from the 1930s to the present, and show how the profession has influenced American politics and culture.
Other films in the series include Citizen Kane (Feb. 10), All The Presidents Men (Feb. 24), Broadcast News (April 7) and Good Night and Good Luck (April 21)
Free and open to public, the series can also be a credit option for students. Journalism school faculty members will be on hand to discuss the films with audience members.
