Mizzou’s sixth annual Life Sciences and Society Symposium, “From Art to Biology and Back Again,” will focus on the provocative new work arising from intersections between the life sciences and art. The conference, held on campus from March 12 to 14, will highlight emerging areas of research and practice across and between disciplines, examining biological contexts of our response to art and aesthetic contexts of our response to scientific visualizations, as well as the twenty-first century art that has found inspiration at their convergence.
The keynote speaker will be Daniel Levitin, a record producer, musician, cognitive psychologist and neuroscientist. He will present “This is Your Brain on Music” at 7 p.m., Friday, March 12, in Jesse Auditorium. His talk will focus on how he brain interprets music and how music affects our emotions. In conjunction with the symposium, Ellis Library is hosting an art exhibit, “Anatomical Illustration: Art Informing Science; 1543-1950” through March 26 that includes works from its special collection.
